Change your Mind {Weigh in Wednesday}

I've been trying to get this post out of my head for a while. It's been rather difficult to get from my brain to the tips of my fingers, but I'm going to try my hardest. Here goes.

I need a change of mind. Mindset.

I know it can't possibly happen overnight, but I know what I need to strive for at least. I need to get rid of the mindset that there are good or bad foods, and that if I have one 'bad' food  then it ruins my whole day.

Because it doesn't.

I have this crazy idea that I have to eat perfectly, or like crap. Nothing in between. If that could change, I might see some progress. It's often as little as one single goldfish. Seriously.

If Harper feeds me a goldfish, it's like she's given me the ticket to stop trying for the whole day.

That can't be right.

You can't live your life only eating perfectly or not well at all. There can be a treat here and there and it doesn't have to send you into a downward spiral of binging and feeling like crap.

Why does it have to be 'Tomorrow I'll do better" mentality? Can't it be I had a treat, and now I'm past it, eating clean for the rest of the day?

I hope I made my point. I need to change my idea of what eating good and bad looks like. It's not perfect and horrible, there are fine days as well.

Moving on to Weigh in Wednesday. I'm not going to upset myself by getting on the scale. I got back from our Boston vacation on Monday night and it's safe to say I ate whatever I wanted to. It was a good trip. I wish my Fitbit hadn't died on the seocnd day, because we walked A LOT and I wish I could see how much it actually was! I'll post about the trip soon, I promise.

My Smore cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory!

I hope everyone else had a great week! Can't wait to read about your progress!

  2. I hear ya! But I know I've gotta give myself some splurges or I will never survive. But sometimes I get way off just because one thing goes bad.And when I am on vacay, I don't usually reign it in either. It happens! You'll get back to it! And you (and I!) will keep hitting those bumps!

  5. I've had the same experience with the single Goldfish :) My son went through the "feed mama" phase while I was in the midst of weight loss and it would throw me for a loop. There was a little voice in the back of my head that tried to tell me that a life where I had to say no to things my baby wanted to share with me was not a life I wanted, but it took me a while to learn to listen to it.

    1. There is a way to have a goldfish and not go completely bananas. It just takes work!

  6. It's hard to get out of that mindset. It helps if, when you realize you're having a negative thought about food, to stop and remind yourself that there is no good or bad food, that YOU are the one in control of what you eat. If you want something, eat it; if you don't, then don't. Stop and think about WHY you want the food--are you hungry? Then go for it. Not hungry? Figure out what's bugging you. That's been the biggest thing for me over the last year of recovery, is understanding that I am in control; I get to choose what I eat, whether I want a Frappuccino now or later, whether I'm going to eat the whole pint of ice cream or just half of it.

    I think you get the idea. It's not easy to change your mindset, it takes a lot of work (at least in my case it did), but it's definitely more than possible. You can do this!
