Adjusting

When people get older, their metabolism changes. They find they can't eat/do the same things and stay at a healthy weight. They have to adjust their lifestyles accordingly.

Is it the same when people lose weight? I know it's harder to lose the last little bit, but I've never really had to pay so much attention to exactly what I'm eating/doing, in order to lose weight. I suppose when you lose weight, your nutritional requirements change, and therefore your diet should change to accommodate that, especially if you're trying to lose more.

It feels like for the last 3 weeks, I've been trying so hard to plan my meals and pay careful attention to my intake vs. output that it's sort of stressed me out. In the last three weeks, I've had one day a week that I've been away or doing something fun, and not eating like I should. I don't feel like I've been binging or going out of my way to eat way more calories than I should. But my last three weeks on the scale have been -0.2, STS, and +0.4.

Can a person not splurge one single day and still lose weight?

I have to look at the whole picture. Have I been eating as well as I think I have? No. I'm stressed and It's causing me to over indulge at night still. I'm still trying to get a hold on that. I'm eating out of stress and maybe out of boredom.

Have I been drinking my water? No. I missed my goal a couple days in a row this week and man was I feeling it. I know I didn't hit it a few times in the last 3 weeks. I know I need my water. It needs to be priority.

My workouts have been more consistent, but I've hurt my knee a bit, and now I've got to be careful. I'm still going to keep on going with P90, I'll just have to modify a few things.

The last few days I've been trying to 'right' myself. I've been consistently getting my water. I have planned my meals quite well. I'm still a crazy sweet craving lunatic at night though, but I've been able to at least refrain from eating a whole box of teddy grahams and a sleeve of ritz. Other than going away to an awesome Christmas market on Saturday, I've been doing fairly well this week.

I have been able to lose 1.2 pounds this week. I think it must have been because I've gone back to basics with it. Trying to not overthink everything too much, but plan ahead for success. Get my water in, and exercise daily. I'm hoping I can keep this up in to next week!

  2. There is such a thing as trying too hard....perhaps you're being too hard on yourself and need to focus on one area at a time.

  3. "Is it the same when people lose weight?" Yep. The less you weigh, the less calories your body burns. As you get smaller, you have a harder time making the caloric deficit needed to lose weight (500 calories a day for a 1 lb loss) simply because you have less mass. Someone who weighs, for instance, 200 lbs and is 5'2' would be able to make that deficit with cutting back on their caloric intake alone, but someone of the same height that weighs 130 wouldn't be able to cut back on food alone to get the losses, in a healthy way. She would have to use exercise to create the remainder of the deficit and even at that, there isn't a lot of wiggle room. It's a sad fact but yes, the less you weigh, the harder it is to lose weight.
