What's My Secret? {Weigh in Wednesday}

Good morning everyone!

It's that time of week again! Weigh in Wednesday with Heather, Ash, and Erin.

There's been something on my mind lately, and I wanted to share it with you.

After losing 40+ pounds, you get a few comments from people. I really do enjoy hearing from people, but sometimes it's a bit discouraging to me, because much of the time, people are asking

'What's your secret?'

I have to be honest with them. There is no secret. It hasn't been a secret for years and years now, about how to lose weight and get healthy. I know people want me to tell them about some pill I've been taking or a drink I've been using. Sorry! Not the case at all.

It's all in the numbers.

Not the number on the scale, but it's actually all about calories in vs. calories out. It's not rocket science, although it can sometimes feel like it. Be careful about what you put in your body, and move your butt!

But I watch what I eat, and can never seem to lose weight!

I get that a lot. My response is usually encouraging them to use apps like MyFitnessPal or something similar to help them along in the process.

I don't want to be bound to an app, counting every single calorie for the rest of my life.

Losing weight is a tough business. You have to be committed. For me, that means tracking what I've eaten, so that I don't forget about what I ate, which is sooo easy to do. It also makes me very conscious of what I'm putting in my body. Before I started tracking, I would have NEVER guessed in a million years that one single Lindt chocolate ball was 70 calories. That's almost the same as an apple or a banana!

I didn't start seeing the results I wanted until I became committed and consistent with my tracking. Honestly, it doesn't matter what you use to track, whether it's a pen and paper, MyFitnessPal, or Weight Watchers. All of those things make you mindful of what you're consuming, if you're honest. If you are the type of person that can just pay attention to their food and lose weight, good for you, but for me, this is the answer.

Maybe I won't be tracking for the rest of my life, but at least for the weight loss part of my life, I'll need to do it. I know myself, and I know that I cannot be trusted to eat healthy without tracking.

So, I'll say it again.

There is no secret.

A healthy diet, tracking, moving my body, and being consistent have gotten me this far.

It didn't happen over night. I've been at this for a year now. I don't believe in quick fixes, because they don't last and they don't change you. I don't believe in using pills or meal replacements to lose weight. It's not natural (even if it says it on the box!) and not something you can do forever. These things might change the number on the scale for a time, but if you don't change your mind, you'll never really see change.

Moving on to Weigh in Wednesday!

Weigh In Wednesday
This week I feel like I rocked it with my eating. I had a few treats, but nothing drastic and no binging! I meal planned and prepped and it payed off. I lost 3.2 pounds this week! I don't usually lose anymore than 1 or so pounds, so 3 is big for me! I'm very happy with this number. I'm very much hoping that I don't stall out next week, because I'm really wanting this plateau to be finished!

Height: 5'3"
Last Week: 168.6
This Week: 165.4
Change: -3.2 Pounds
Total Loss: 44.6 Pounds

Here's to planning and prepping and sweating my way to another loss next week!

How was your week? Did you meet your goals?

  2. Great loss this week!

I've been using MFP for about 6 months now, and frankly, the thought of using it for life really isn't that bad. It's super easy and right there on my phone.

But yeah, no "secret". Just hard work.

  6. That's a great loss! and if you've been at a standstill for a while now maybe it's just your body finally letting it go, and you will be able to continue to lose next week.
You're soo right about weight loss being hard work and you really do have to be committed, and with all the apps out there, tracking has never been easier. It's just a matter of doing it.

  7. Exactly... Obviously I'm not really one to talk, but it is just about the math. And MFP can be tricky at first, but once you just have to keep doing it until it is habit.
    Congrats on your success Winter!
