Cloth Wipes! I Made the Switch!

At first, I thought it was totally gross/weird to even think about cloth wiping.

And then it hit me.

I'm already doing the cloth diaper laundry, why not just wash my wipes with them??

Also, wipes account for a LOT of waste!

Money AND garbage...

Money you throw in the garbage...

So, I decided to try it out.

Oh, and did you know last week was Waste Reduction Week in Canada?? Happy coincidence!

I had about 10 or so from AppleCheeks, from starter kits and things I've ordered from them. I was also given some home made wipes for my baby shower.

That wouldn't be nearly enough, though, so I set out to make my own.

I had several burp cloths/swaddling cloths that we never use anymore (and I'm totally addicted to Aden + Anais), so with the help of a friend, I chopped them up and sewed them into wipes!

Cut and sew together, inside out. Leave a hole!
Flip!

Top Stitch and done!

For a wipe solution, I decided to go with water, a dab of Delish Naturals body wash/shampoo combo, a little lavender and tea tree essential oil. I ordered the oil off of amazon for like 10$ or something like that.

I mixed the solution in a bowl and soaked my wipes in it. I squeezed out as much water as I could and put them in the old wipes containers I'd been saving.

For on the go, I did the same thing, but with a smaller container. The only thing about that is, I'll have to fill it more often. No big deal though. I had to use my AppleCheeks wipes for this container though, because I made my wipes really quite big, so they didn't fit in the small container. Like I said, I had them from when I first got my cloth diapers, so no big deal.

So far, I really like it. It's no more work than before, and it's MUCH less waste and money. I am, however, using disposables for poopy messes. That's my preference, and it's easier for us.

  2. I have considered using cloth wipes because we're using cloth diapers. It just makes sense, right? However I still have yet to make the switch. I don't know. It's just one.more.thing. to have to remember and I already feel like with the twins, I just don't need any more stress! I look forward to reading more on your blog!

    1. If you get enough of a supply of cloth diapers going, it's not a big deal if you forget an extra day between washes. Twins would be hard though! Thanks for reading!
